Job summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to develop your leadership and teaching skills and advance your knowledge and competence in stroke specific care?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to develop as a senior staff nurse/stroke specialist nurse on Kirton Stroke Unit at Ipswich Hospital.

You will be an enthusiastic, flexible and well-motivated RN with a strong commitment to nursing stroke patients.

As a key member of the stroke and ward nursing team you will ensure high quality stroke/TIA care is delivered. You will be part of a multi professional team providing 24/7 hyper acute stroke care on a rota basis. Induction and full training will be provided for both.

Working across the Trust you will help facilitate patient flow and achieve the standards set within the National Clinical guidelines for stroke.

You should have proven experience at Band 5 in stroke care or acute medicine.

You will need to have:

  • The ability to work autonomously
  • An ability to make safe and speedy clinical judgments in an emergency situation
  • The desire to develop your stroke clinical skills and knowledge
  • Evidence of teaching, mentoring and supporting other staff
  • Excellent communication and team work skills
  • Good organisational skills

Please note this is a fixed term position until end of April 2024. Internal candidates will be offered a secondment position only.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible with the guidance of the Ward Sister / Matron for providing leadership, teaching and clinical support within the ward

Thorough knowledge, good example and education, enable staff to deliver high quality, individualised

To provide support and supervision of nursing staff, and effectively coordinate and deploy resources within the Unit.
