Job summary

Acute Medical Same Day Emergency Care (AMSDEC)'s main purpose is the assessment and treatment of patients referred to hospital via their GP and those referred to the medical team from ED, UTC, clinics, paramedics etc.We aim to treat patients the same day following diagnostics and treatment or bring them back to our returner's clinic for further assessment or diagnostics.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing emergency care environment and also the prospect of working on other acute medical wards if AMSDEC does not have the need to be bedded.

We are currently looking to recruit a Band 5 Staff Nurse for AMSDEC within the Emergency Assessment Unit on night shifts and on some occasion's long days.The working hours are 2000-0830, Day 0800-2030 or 1000-2030.

This appointment is to AMSDEC, however if the unit is un-bedded you will be redeployed within the Medicine division.

We would welcome candidates with experience within acute medical settings who are keen to progress their career within the Urgentcare division. The successful candidate will hold a current professional registration; have excellent communication skills and the abilityto remain professional under pressure.

Main duties of the job

We need nurses who are open to the challenges brought about by change and who are committed to creative partnerships. You willneed to be responsive to the fluctuating demands typical of the emergency environment and show a willingness to undertake extendedroles.

We are looking for individuals who are keen to develop and deliver excellent clinical care. You must be motivated to drive forward andimprove the services for the population of Colchester and surrounding area. Liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.

To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with indirect supervision from senior staff.

To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
