Job summary

The post being advertised is a replacement post. With the appointment to the vacant post there will be seven oncologists with their primary base at Ipswich Hospital, and eight oncologists based at Colchester Hospital. The Departments of Oncology is within the 'Oncology & Haematology Clinical Delivery Group' of the 'Cancer and Diagnostics' Division.

The post is based at Ipswich Hospital but there is the expectation of cross site working.

It is envisaged that the post holder will work according to an agreed job plan, in order to maintain a service embracing all aspects of Oncology including solid tumour chemotherapy and technically advanced radiotherapy (if a clinical oncologist).

The candidate will have an opportunity to discuss their own proposed favourable tumour sites according to the interest of the applicants. This will be negotiated flexibly for the right candidate, with possible preference given to those with an interest in Gynae and Upper GI.

Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the Specialist Register.

An Enhanced Relocation package may be available for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointees and Clinical lead and Director on behalf of the Medical Director three months after the commencement date of their appointment.

The job plan will then be reviewed annually. It will cover all aspects of a consultant's professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. In addition, it will include personal objectives, details of their link to wider service objectives and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.

10 PA's will be offered with the possible option of 1 more A minimum of 8.5 PA's will be for direct patient care and 1.5 PA's for SPA. ( See Job Plan below)

CLINICAL

On call arrangements

1 in 7 Consultant rota (with internal cover if medical oncologist for radiotherapy emergencies). On call is categorised as Class B. Out of hours cover is supplied by a resident FY2 / ST1-2 from the Medical On Call rota. The junior doctors are all part of the medical rota.

Board & Ward Rounds

All the consultants support the daily board and ward rounds when on call. Clinical sessions are reduced in order to accommodate the required availability.
