The Department
The department of Oral Surgery is based at the Primary Care Centre. The Department deals with over 4000 outpatient visits per year - new referrals and return visits. A total in excess of 1500 day case operations and minor operating cases are currently performed annually.

Operating Theatres
GA and LA cases are undertaken at the Elmstead Day Care Unit, Colchester Hospital in purpose built day case suites.
Outpatients
The Outpatient Department is well equipped and is supported by two dedicated clinic rooms, a third is to be installed soon with a new intra oral x-ray machine and a dedicated major treatment room, an OPG machine and a cryotherapy console.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to participate actively in the diagnosis, management and follow-up of patients. The main role for the right candidate would be to run oral surgery consultation clinics, minor operation sessions under local anaesthetic independently, as well as assist the department consultant and other clinician with a variety of specialised oral surgery procedures in the general anaesthetic theatre sessions. We have a dedicated oral surgery department nurse, as well as outpatient nurses who assist in the oral surgery clinics and minor operations. Further opportunities will be available for the right candidate to progress into operating independently for theatre sessions.

At Ipswich we are investing £35million in a new Emergency Department and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, with additional diagnostic imaging kit (MRI and CT). There's a £5.3million molecular diagnostic laboratory soon to open at Ipswich, and works begins soon for a new Breast Care Centre and a Children's Unit.
