Job summary
The Dame Clare Marx Building that will house our elective orthopaedic centre (EOC) opens in 2024 with a focus on elective orthopaedic surgery and day cases. The centre will have eight laminar flow theatres, three wards, recovery facilities, and support services including radiology and EBME.
The EOC at Colchester Hospital will be one of the largest centres of its kind in Europe. Delivering high volume and low complexity cases locally for the people we serve across our region. This is an exciting development to enable us to be a GIRFT flagship and a centre of educational training and research.
The Head of Care, as part of the Senior Leadership team, will ensure the outstanding performance of the new centre and clinical pathways for patients. As well as providing expert clinical and managerial leadership for all nursing/theatre and therapy staff, the Head of Care will be a champion of patient safety, quality and operational effectiveness.
You should be a registered nurse, allied health professional or healthcare professional with a post graduate qualification in management or a specialist clinical field and with significant experience of clinical management within a senior management role. You should also have experience in leading service changes and initiatives to deliver improvements including quality of care along with leading/managing clinical governance and strategy development.
Main duties of the job
- To lead and manage all the nursing, theatre and therapy staff working within the EOC
- To support Service Leads outwith the CGD/Division regarding other staff to ensue delivery of the service to the EOC e.g. recovery, therapies
- To be responsible for the operational delivery of the Quality agenda, including risk management, and quality improvement targets within the orthopaedic elective and day case orthopaedics.
- The post holder will represent the CDG in nursing related matters at Divisional Board level and work collaboratively across the Trust to implement the corporate agenda.
- To undertake clinical shifts within speciality on a regular basis to maintain skills credibility and the ability to revalidate in terms of CPPD
- In collaboration with the Associate Director of Nursing (ADON) an Nursing and Quality, provide assurance that the standards set out in the Trust's Nursing & Midwifery strategy are monitored and delivered within the CDG
- To attend contribute and present at senior level meetings within the Trust and ensure the CDGs interests are represented in relation to decision-making.
- As appropriate represent and negotiate on behalf of the Trust in internal and external meetings specific to the CDG.
- Ensure delivery of the clinical governance agenda and quality of patient case
- To act as an ambassador for the EOC and support the Clinical Director to promote and champion to be the preferred provider for orthopaedic surgery
