Exciting news! We're thrilled to announce a brand-new opportunity for a full-time (40 hours per week) Senior Clinical Education Fellow post. This is fixed term for 18 months in the first instance but can be extended for a further 2 years by mutual agreement. Ideally starting in March 2026 but can be negotiated for the right candidate.

This role is tailor-made to support undergraduate teaching, offering a unique chance to shape the future of medical education. As the newest member of our team, you'll be leading a team of education fellows as well as teaching medical students in the dynamic hospital environment while also providing mentorship to aspiring doctors. From phase 1 bedside teaching to phase 2 curriculum and assessment activities, you'll cover a wide array of topics, ensuring a diverse and engaging experience.

Main duties of the job

Join us in this dynamic role where you'll be leading a team of education fellows as well as facilitating medical student bedside teaching, assisting with simulation training, planning student activities, and delivering diverse teaching methods to undergraduates. You'll engage with high-tech simulation equipment and contribute to assessment and evaluation processes. Collaboration with the wider medical education team and pastoral care for students are crucial. Additionally, involvement in research projects, networking, and attendance at educational events is encouraged. Essential qualifications for this post include a Medicine Degree, GMC registration with a licence to practice, and at least four years post registration experience in an acute trust. Knowledge of teaching and program development is vital, along with proficiency in the 23 GMC practical skills and procedures as well as strong IT ability. Effective communication and relationship-building skills are essential. Continuous professional development and engagement in audit and governance activities are expected.

The exact job plan will be agreed with the Associate Director of Clinical Studies (UBMS)

Be the senior clinical education fellow, leading a team of education fellows with responsibility for their rotas and teaching programme which you will lead on and develop, with input from the senior clinical leads

Facilitating weekly Phase 1 (first- and second-year medical students from the University of Buckingham Medical School) bedside teaching. This involves taking small groups of students to clinical areas to practise history taking and examinations and teaching bedside etiquette.

Assisting with undergraduate and postgraduate simulation training.

Assisting with planning other student activities such as elective placements, assistantships, revision sessions before finals and any other undergraduate/postgraduate education programmes

The teaching encompasses small group workshops, lectures, simulation-based education, and mentoring, amongst others. All teaching materials are provided however development of resources is expected and encouraged.

The Trust has an academic centre on site which includes two fully equipped simulation suites, high fidelity manikins, state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment, and the support of a multidisciplinary simulation faculty. As a fellow, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the running and development of simulation.

Training in assessment and evaluation of students is available throughout the year. You will have the opportunity to be involved in assessment including marking exams, assessing at OSCEs, quality assurance processes and supporting the running of clinical examinations in the trust.

Working with the wider MDT within Medical Education to effectively plan for student placements.

Student pastoral support

Work on research and quality improvement projects of relevance to medical education. It is expected that this work should lead to presentations at appropriate professional meetings and publication in relevant journals.

There are regular opportunities to network with education fellows outside the trust as well as attendance at education conferences. All education fellows are encouraged to attend the Trust wide weekly Grand Round as well as other postgraduate teaching such as the weekly Medical Journal Club and weekly IMT teaching.

You will have regular meetings with your supervisor to help with appraisal and to guide your development.

The post will involve occasional travel to Buckingham Medical School, as well as NHS Partnership Trusts
