Stoma Care Specialist Nurse

Department: Stoma Care Department

Band: 6 pro-rata if part-time

Hours: 30 hrs per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a small team of nurse specialists in the stoma care department. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in stoma care to join our small team based in the hospital but also caring for patients in the community. The role will include working with babies and children.

The successful candidate will have recent clinical experience of caring for patients with a stoma as well as two years surgical nursing experience. The individual will be able to demonstrate their ability to work effectively both within a team and autonomously combined with excellent organisational and communication skills.

You will be part of a progressive team providing pre-operative stoma counselling and siting, post-operative teaching, outpatient nurse-led clinics and supporting patients in the community. The successful candidate can expect an induction programme tailored specifically to their experience, starting with a period of work shadowing, covering all areas of the service.

A full driving licence and access to a car is essential.

You will be encouraged and supported to develop your skills and knowledge through industry-led training and education opportunities, including attending relevant courses, study days and conferences. You will be expected to contribute to departmental research, quality improvement projects and be involved in teaching stoma care to other health care professionals.

To be part of a small team under the delegation of the Lead Stoma Care Advanced Nurse Practitioner and in partnership with the other Stoma Care Specialist Nurses within the trust to provide evidence based patient centred care for patients with a stoma.

To support the development and provision of a high quality specialist nursing service to both inpatients and outpatients working as part of the multi-disciplinary team. The role also includes working with babies and children.

To ensure that patients and their families/carers are fully informed and supported throughout their treatment pathway.

To function as an autonomous nurse specialist providing a specialist level of knowledge, advice and care within the field of stoma care supporting developments in advancement of nurse led service provision in line with competency.
