The Research & Development department at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHSFT are recruiting an Academic Research Governance Coordinator to join the team. The post-holder will support Researchers in the development of Own Accounts research and contribute on the policy, strategy and tactics relating to all aspects of Trust R&D, as directed by the Executive Lead for R&D, to maximise Trust R&D performance.

This post will support the Head and Deputy Head of R&D in the reviewing of MKUH sponsored and co-sponsored studies prior to HRA and regulatory submission, confirming capacity to support the study. Alongside research approvals, the post-holder will need to keep up to date with research regulations, develop SOPs and guidance documents and will on occasion be required to provide research governance training to R&D staff and research staff alike.

Development and growth of the Own Account Research team, leading on sponsorship of Research within the Trust.

The post holder will work to agreed objectives with the R&D strategy in terms of developing the Own Account Research offering of the Trust, leading on the co-ordination of the research from an administrative side. The post holder will have the discretion to work to within these objectives to meet the aims of the R&D strategy.

The post holder will:

  • Support Trust Strategy: Providing high quality clinical care, increasing research & development.
  • Support the implementation of the R&D strategy to develop an Own Account Research team within MKUH, with the goal of establishing a clinical trials unit/research facility at MKUH.
  • Contribute on the policy, strategy and tactics relating to all aspects of Trust R&D, as directed by the Executive Lead for R&D, to maximise Trust R&D performance.
  • Proposes changes to policies and procedures within Research to enhance the quality of the trials undertaken by the Trust.
  • Management of staff within the own account research team. Carry out appraisals, training, induction and one to ones.
  • Support, review and maintain Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) submissions.
  • Manage the storage and retrieval of records for those participating in Trust research trials.
  • Participate to Academic Health Science Network regular meeting, present and promote
  • Contributes to the design, costings, and preparation of new clinical trial research proposals
  • Contributes to the writing and editing of the protocol, design of the case report forms, databases and other trial related documentation
  • Works with the Chief Investigator to ensure adequate set up prior to site initiation, ensuring that staff participating in any research related activity are able to comply with the protocol and with Good Clinical Practice and that appropriate audit trails are maintained in line with current legislation.
