Surgical Research Fellow

Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a surgeon in training to undertake a consolidated period of research. This is a replacement post following submission of a PhD thesis by the previous post holder. There is no formal on call commitment, but the successful candidate would be able to undertake on call shifts at ST4 /equivalent level where appropriate. This is a fixed-term post until 01.02.2027

Main duties of the job

This is a full time role with aprimary focus on the delivery of surgical research. The post holder can expect to learn about a variety of research modalities, but the anticipated focus will be clinical trial based. The supervised set up, delivery and interpretation of this research would be the main role of the candidate, and it would be expected that this work would form the basis of a PhD submission at the affiliated university (university of Buckingham) under the supervision of the research team. Additional tuition fees are not currently covered by the post, but additional funding applications will be fully supported as part of the academic supervision provided.

  • Medical degree with Full registration with GMC
  • MRCS or equivalent

Desirable

  • NHS Experience

Experience/ Training

  • Experience at Registrar level in General Surgery
  • Ability to manage common surgical emergencies including operative management
  • Publications in fields relevant to the current

Desirable

  • JAG cert

Knowledge

Essential

  • Appropriate level of clinical knowledge
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical research
  • Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice.
  • IT and Computer Skills
  • Appropriate level of clinical knowledge
  • Sufficient leadership within an organizational and knowledge of national access targets
