We have an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Trust as a Patient Pathway Administrator / Receptionist; we are looking for a motivated & hardworking individual to join our Macmillan and Oncology team in our Cancer Centre.

You will work within this dedicated team to facilitate the smooth running of the reception and clinic areas, scheduling and booking appointments and ensuring that co-ordinated and streamlined communication revolve around the patient and their individual needs.

You should have experience of working as a receptionist or in a customer focused environment, and have knowledge of customer care. We are looking for individuals with excellent communication skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and a desire to provide a first class service for patients and clinical teams.

This rapidly expanding modern and busy service offers many training opportunities for their staff, recent developments have led to the opening of our cancer centre in February 2020 and the Radiotherapy centre in 2024. This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Wellbeing and Support Centre.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for entering accurate data onto the patient access system via Consultant proforma's / instructions, following the patient access policy, in accordance with patient choice.
  • Central communication point for patients attending for appointments, ensuring that patients (and their families) are clear about next appointments and that choice is offered, as far as possible, regarding timing.
  • Act as a point of contact to listen to patients' queries and concerns and pass them to the appropriate areas.
  • Ensure that all patient entries are up to date and accurate. Alert the Unit Senior Sister of any concerns regarding this process.
  • Ensure patients read notes are available for clinics and treatment appointments.

We firmly believe in holistic care, with a newly established wellbeing team to enhance the recovery package for patients living with and beyond cancer. We have Citizen Advice Bureau onsite and offer a wide range of carers and patient support groups.

  • To be part of the Macmillan and Oncology Unit teams and work to enable the objectives of the Trust to be achieved.
  • To contribute to the Trust complying with Clinical Governance and Risk Management.
  • To meet and greet visitors to the department.
  • To ensure information from the waiting list proforma is entered in to the Care Records System.
  • Book patients on the Waiting lists in order of clinical priority and chronological order.
  • Contact the patients via phone as necessary.
  • Identify when lists are over/ under booked to Macmillan Senior Sister.
  • Prepare and communicate final lists to all Clinical area.
  • Monitor and review planned lists.
  • Book patients in advance for pre chemo assessment.
  • Liaise with Haematology Outpatient area and ward 25 admissions, especially with respect to patients with follow up.
  • Ensure all waiting list movements and information is recorded on to the system in a timely and appropriate manner and communication is maintained with all appropriate areas.
