Staff Nurse, Acute Cardiac Care Unit

An exciting opportunity has become available to work on the Acute Cardiac Care Unit (Ward 17) at Milton Keynes University Hospital. The ward is a fast paced and exciting area to work in, offering great opportunities to develop as a cardiac nurse. You would be joining a well-established team and would be well supported through your development.

The Acute Cardiac Care Unit has 8 Coronary Care Beds, 4 side rooms and 14 "stepdown" beds, and has the ability to monitor all of those patients via fixed monitors or via telemetry. We care for patients with a wide range of conditions including, NSTEMI, ACS, Heart Failure, Arrhythmias and Electrolyte Imbalance. We work closely with the cardiac rehabilitation and heart failure teams and our dedicated discharge officer to ensure that our patients leave the ward with all the information and support that they need. The ward staffing ratios have been established to reflect the fact that we regularly take level 2 patients (Safer Nursing Care Tool).

Main duties of the job

o On joining the team, you will have a supernumerary period where you will work alongside a more senior nurse. During this period, you will follow a bespoke induction program, based on your previous experience.

Milton Keynes University Hospital is proud to be able to offer elective angioplasty to outpatients as of January 2023, with a view to further develop the service in the coming months to also treat the in patients from the Acute Cardiac Care Unit. Staff will be trained in the vascular management of these patients.

Some of the training available to the successful candidate includes the, ILS/ALS, Non-invasive NIV, the deteriorating patient course plus an in-house cardiac study day run by one of our consultants.

Excellent communication skills are paramount as you will be liaising with a wide range of departments from within the Trust and with other cardiac centres within the cardiac network. You will play a key role in orchestrating safe and effective movement into and out of the ward to ensure effective flow of patients throughout the Trust.
