An exciting opportunity has arisen and we are seeking a highly motivated radiographer eager to advance their career in CT/MRI at Milton Keynes University Hospital.

Join us as a Radiographer and be part of the vibrant, friendly and inclusive Radiology department. Our welcoming and adaptable Imaging Department is equipped with three Canon CT systems and two Siemens MRI systems. We are a multi-disciplinary team of clinical and non-clinical staff who provide a high quality, user-friendly diagnostic radiology service.

As a vital team member, you will contribute to delivering a proactive, first-class diagnostic service, ensuring exceptional patient are aligned with the Trust's core values and upholding high clinical standards, whilst also acting as a mentor for junior staff and students. Essential qualifications include excellent communication and organisational skills, a dedication to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and practical knowledge of radiation protection, legislation and health & safety requirements. Main duties of the job

  • To work a rotation through the MRI and CT departments conducting cross- sectional examinations using a range of MRI and CT equipment upon various patient types; both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in a manner that meets profession, departmental and legal standards and requirements.
  • To proactively assist in the management of the MRI and CT scanning departments on a daily basis whilst fostering a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • To actively supervise and teach radiographers new to MRI and/or CT, student radiographers and imaging assistants and to actively help, teach and support training Specialty doctors in radiology.
  • Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.
  • Ensuring that at all times you act within your sphere of competence.

Clinical:

  • Work unsupervised, performing all CT, MR scans following imaging parameters set down in scanning protocols.
  • Liaise with referral source where clarification is required regarding the selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination and prioritise cases by urgent clinical need

Managerial responsibilities:

  • Deputise in the absence of senior staff such as section heads for CT & MR or band 7 radiographers and be responsible for the smooth day to day running of the CT & MRI department.
  • Be familiar with the range of technical applications available on imaging equipment.
  • Monitor and report equipment faults and to determine the severity of the problem and its probable impact on the workload. To make a balanced judgement on when to call in a service engineer, considering the effect on the normal running of the CT/ MR Service.

Communication:

  • To assess specific communication needs of individual patients. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the MRI safety checklist impossible and implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during and after an examination.

Analytical and judgemental skills:

  • Use analytical and judgement skills with regard to the interpretation of clinical information. Advise radiologists of the technical capabilities of the CT and MRI scanners and suggest appropriate sequences to better demonstrate a variety of common pathologies.

Responsibilities for Human Resources:

  • To assist in the supervision and clinical instruction of undergraduate radiographic staff.
  • To undertake formalised assessments of undergraduate students and document findings in accordance with each academic institution's requirements.

  • BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, word, outlook, power point and excel)
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
