Department: Patient Safety

Band: 4, £26,530 - £29,114 Per annum, pro rata

Hours: Part-time 20 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

This is an exciting time at the Trust as we continue to embed the new patient safety incident response framework (PSIRF). This supports a significant shift in the way the NHS responds to patient safety incidents. PSIRF supports the development and maintenance of an effective patient safety incident response system that integrates four key aims:o Compassionate engagement and involvement of those affected by patient safety incidentso Application of a range of system-based approached to learning from patient safety incidentso Considered and proportionate responses to patient safety incidentso Supportive oversight focused on strengthening response system functioning and improvement (quality improvement)The Patient Safety & Engagement Coordinator role is crucial in the facilitation and implementation of this strategy and will focus on supporting the Patient Safety and Learning Leads in investigations and the wider divisions across the hospital.

Main duties of the job

The role will be very varied with each day directed by the nature of reported incidents and ongoing investigations and as such will require flexibility with regards to working arrangements.

o Provide administrative support within the Patient Safety Team and acrossDivisions to support the delivery of safe care and good engagement with staff, patients and families who have been involved in a patient safety incident.o Provide support in data, maintaining spreadsheets and trend inputting using appropriate software packages and risk management systems to a high standard of accuracy and presentation.o Support the implementation of key policies, protocols and improvement actions.o Prepare monitoring data for key monthly and quarterly reports as requested (including that from the Radar system).o Provide administration support for meetings such as preparation and distribution of papers and minute taking at meetings.o Answer telephone calls from staff, patients and relatives providing general information or directing the caller to an appropriate team member.

We are looking for a highly motivated, adaptable and flexible individual with extremely good attention to detail, excellent and empathetic communication skills and ideally with some experience in data management. An insight into the principles of incident management and patient safety, would be beneficial to support the Trust with its Trust's PSIRF journey and this new way of working.

The successful candidate should have relevant experience have a good understanding of patient safety issues, although additional in house training and support will be provided specific to the organisation.

The duties & responsibilities of the role are:

To work flexibly within the patient safety team to ensure the needs of our patients, families and staff are prioritised in a timely fashion and safety team colleagues are supported. This may involve working hours and onsite days being changed from week to week in order to provide a responsive support and learning service. To work with divisions, the corporate nursing, patient experience, quality improvement, and risk teams as part of the Trusts patient safety team to ensure that the Trust meets the requirements set out in the National Patient Safety Strategy and PSIRF.
