Department: Surgical Wards (20, 21, 23 and 24)
Band 2 pro-rate if part time
Hours: Full time (37.5hrs per week) Part time positions available, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Ward 20: Emergency Surgical Care
Ward 21: Elective Orthopaedic and surgical Gynaecology and Urological care
Ward 24: Elective Surgical Care
Ward 23: Trauma and Orthopaedics, Ear, Nose and Throat and Spinal Injury Care
The post holder will aim to ensure that all patients are provided with a safe and high-quality standard of care.
Main duties of the job
To adhere to hospital policies.
To take responsibility for monitoring stock levels of disposables and managing a system of ordering that ensures adequate levels of stock at all times.
Assisting the senior team in ensuring the asset register of equipment is up to date.
To ensure the safeguarding of patients by working within Trust policies and procedures and reporting any concerns or issues raised to the nurse in charge.
To work within own limitations and competence and refer issues beyond your limitations to the nurse in charge.
To participate in promoting a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
The post holder will be required to undertake the Care Certificate and MKUH standards within the first 12 weeks of employment.

To assist all team members as required in the direct delivery of patient care for surgical patients across the elective and emergency footprint.
To have knowledge of basic clinical observations and an understanding of the correct escalation process, making judgements on when to report patient conditions to a senior member of staff.
To assist, where appropriate, in the induction of new staff within the department, demonstrating duties to new starters
To organise own daily workload, adjusting and prioritising appropriately as the ward actively dictates.
Communicate factual information to patients regarding their condition within your clinical remit. Patients may have barriers to understanding such as a physical or mental disability, including dementia and so information will need to be delivered with tact, empathy, and sensitivity.
To act at all times in a professional and courteous manner.
To ensure compliance with mandatory training.
To participate in the Trusts appraisal system and develop a Personal Development Plan.
To participate in department meetings as appropriate.
To uphold the Trust Values.
