Theatre Support Worker - B2

Band: 2 £23,615 Per annum, pro rata if part-time
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
Milton Keynes University Hospitals NHS Trust is a medium sized, level 2 trauma facility, comprising approximately 500 beds.
We require a proactive and hardworking employee to work as part of our Theatre Support team.
This is a challenging and demanding post - the successful candidate must be confident, approachable, and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. You need to be customer focused and be able to communicate with staff at all levels; external and internal.
Applicants must be physically fit and able to carry heavy loads. The role requires you to be active for prolonged periods of time. All mandatory training will be provided as well as on the job training.

Main duties of the job
Act as a caring and compassionate first point of contact for patients coming into theatres.
Supporting as part of a team the provision of a high quality service to patients during their perioperative pathway.

Job responsibilities
- To assist in maintaining general tidiness and cleanliness within the department
- Assist with safe storage of supplies.
- Assist in ordering of supplies as directed by the Senior Theatre Practitioner
- To ensure faulty equipment is reported, decontaminated and dispatched as required within the Trust or out of it as required.
- Ensure spare equipment is cleaned and stored charged ready for use.
- Ensure safe transportation of lab specimens and collection of blood products.
- Ensure linen supplies are optimised and available, including theatre scrubs and cover gowns.
- Timely and accurate liaison with the wards and recovery units with informationregarding changes in order of operating lists or anaesthetic instructions, e.g., patient hydration
- Ensure patients are transferred safely from ward to the theatre suite, maintaining their comfort and dignity at all times.
- Assisting with the safe positioning of patients for operative procedures
- Assist in preparing the theatre for all operating sessions.
- Participate in in house training and teaching sessions.
- To adhere to Trust policies and procedures
- Participate, as requested in audits and surveys within the department.
- To complete relevant documentation as required such as completing cleaning logs, monitoring of fluid warmers, maintaining pathology records.
- Able to organise own workload with minimal supervision.
