Job title: Maternity Care Assistant

Department: Community Midwives

Band 2

Hours: 22.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our community midwifery team at MKUH. The role will support the community midwifery team in meeting the needs of maternity service users accessing care at the trust. You will be assisting in the running of the community midwifery service, having contact with service users via telephone and email in your capacity as a Maternity care assistant, under supervision of a Registered Midwife.

The successful applicant should be confident in:

  • Responding to service users in an efficient, polite and courteous manner providing a caring and helpful service to service users
  • Administrative tasks such as monitoring multiple email inboxes with direction and supervision of a Registered Midwife.
  • Participating in ensuring effective use of resources and reduction of wastage within the department.
  • Using digital programmes such as microsoft excel, teams and sharepoint

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside midwives and other members of the maternity care team who provide direct care to service users, babies and their families throughout their maternity journey. The post holder will use skills to undertake defined tasks for which they have been appropriately trained, as directed by midwifery staff to provide routine care for service users and their babies.

  • Greet and orientate service users to the clinical area
  • Respond to client call bells.
  • Assist with the care of service users and their babies as requested by the midwife/nurse, including preparation for theatre.
  • Preparing service user and chaperoning for clinical examination, screening and immunisations.

Baby

  • Assist and support the education of parents with baby bathing and other care as required, reinforcing the role of parents and family as central carers and partners in care.
  • Assist with infant feeding according to local procedures and policies with an emphasis on the baby friendly initiatives.
