Sister/ Charge Nurse
Department: Accident and Emergency
Band 6 £35,392 - £42,618 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, pro rata if part-time, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Main duties of the job
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care within the standards and philosophy of the department
- To co-ordinate clinical activities, allocation of staff and the management of patient flow within the department in conjunction with senior staff and to include other shift management responsibilities
- To ensure patient safety at all times
- To maintain accurate and comprehensive records of patient care
- To act as clinical leader and role model, sharing expertise with colleagues
- To ensure patients and relatives needs are met in a courteous, helpful and compassionate manner
- To maintain effective relationships between the multi-disciplinary team in the clinical environment

Job responsibilities
- To be responsible for shift management, including the allocation /redeployment of staff management of patient flows within the ED in conjunction with Senior nursing/Medical colleagues to achieve Emergency Access Targets.
- To have responsibility for the development of a specific clinical area, in liaison with the Head of Nursing/Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
- To ensure all resources (financial, materials, staff and time) are used appropriately in the clinical area and to assist with budget management.
- To assist when necessary with the initiation and evaluation of any projects appropriate to ED in line with clinical governance.
- To be able to initiate, manage and evaluate change in liaison with Head of Nursing other Sisters/Charge Nurses.
- To provide direction, negotiate objectives and appraise team members.
- To participate in the recruitment and selection of departmental staff.
- To act as lead person, representing the directorate, for specific development projects/meetings in the absence of the Head of Nursing.
- To assist the Head of Nursing in the investigation and positive management of complaints.
