Job summary
The Pharmacy Department at Milton Keynes University Hospital is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, registered Pharmacy Technician with a BTEC or NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences to take on the challenging role of pharmacy procurement. Attention to detail, ensuring adherence to local, regional and national contracts; providing the trust with the best quality, service and value for its staff and patients. Adherence to GDP standards through our QMS to ensure the department conforms with MHRA requirements.
Main duties of the job
This role includes:
- Daily ordering schedule to ensure adequate and timely supply of medicines
- Application of CMU contract information
- Investigation of stock issues, back orders and to follow items
- Teaching of staff on pharmacy procurement
- Dispensing and final check of products for inpatients, outpatients and discharge; supporting the ward MMT service.
- Participation in our shift system, weekend and Bank Holiday roster
The department has seen a complete refurbishment, new robot, staffing expansion, opened a dedicated Outpatient Pharmacy, new Aseptic Unit and has satellite areas due to come online in the future.

- oRegistered Pharmacy Technician supported by evidence of CPD in line with GPhC requirements
- oBTEC / NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- oAccredited Checking Technician, or demonstrate relevant competence within three months of starting in role
- oKnowledge of procurement legislation and policies, acquired through basic qualification plus specialist training or experience
- oEvidence of providing advice in relation to patient care including information on common drug dosage and use; advises patients and colleagues on issues relating to medication regimes and changes to prescribing, working in partnership with pharmacists
- oEvidence of ability to plan and organise complex activities or programmes of work requiring planning and adjustment to meet changing needs
