Job summary

We are looking for caring and compassionate individuals, with a willingness to learn to join our Ward and Department Teams as Health Care Support Worker.

Your role would be to assist our Registered Nurses, Nursing Associates, and members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver the fundamentals of nursing care to our patients. Experience in this field would be an advantage but not essential as training will be given.

We currently have Health Care Support Worker vacancies to offer on our Medical and Surgical wards and Departments with opportunities for you to develop further and advance your career in nursing should you wish too.

As a University Hospital we are committed to educating and developing our workforce. Successful applicants will receive:

  • Trust Induction training
  • Clinical skills education.
  • Direct supervision and support during a supernumerary induction period.
  • Complete the National Care Certificate.
  • Have access to further education and training.

The post holder will be required to undertake the Care Certificate and MKUH standards within the first 12 weeks of employment.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Health Care Support Worker is to assist the nursing team in the delivery of safe effective care to the patient.

To assist all team members as required in the direct delivery of patient care. Undertake personal care duties for patients including bathing and feeding.

To have knowledge of basic clinical observations and an understanding of the correct escalation process, making judgements on when to report patient conditions to a senior member of staff.

To assist, where appropriate, in the induction of new staff within the department, demonstrating duties to new starters

To organise own daily workload, adjusting and prioritising appropriately as the ward actively dictates.
