No previous healthcare experience is necessary. We will train you before you start working on one of our wards. You will start on our induction programme to help you settle in and you will learn the skills you need to do this role. You will also start you working towards the Care Certificate (if you do not already hold this qualification).

Main duties of the job

What tasks will you do?

You will be a core member of the team deliveringpersonal careto patients. You'll also be key in supporting patients with their own self-care and independence.

You'll work under the guidance of a healthcare professional i.e. a nurse and your job will vary depending on the ward you are based. Your daily duties will be varied to include:

  • Helping patients get up, washed and dressed, taking patients to the toilet, helping at meal times
  • Contribute to patient assessments such as blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature
  • Recording your actions accurately in patient notes.

Our hospital is a 24 hour service as our patients need care and attention around the clock. Therefore we work on a shift basis and you are likely to be given early, late, and night shifts, so everyone gets involved working different shifts to ensure our patients receive the very best care.

This may be a big change to you and your lifestyle but our teams who work around the clock say that they enjoy the varied work pattern and get to work with more colleagues compared to the usual 9-5.

The skills we are looking for:

  • You need to be able to understand and communicate both verbally and write in English
  • Have numerical and analytic skills to do patient observations
  • You will need to have a customer-focused approach
  • You will need to be able to use IT systems and databases
  • You will have the skill to focus on the details with the ability to spot problems.
