Clinical Healthcare Support Worker - Respiratory

The closing date is 30 March 2026

Job summary

Join Our Respiratory Team as a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker

We're growing our Respiratory team and are looking for kind, caring and motivated individuals to join us as Clinical Healthcare Support Workers. If you enjoy helping others, work well as part of a team, and bring a positive, can-do attitude to each shift, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker in Respiratory, you'll play an essential role in supporting our nursing teams to deliver high-quality care. The work is varied and rewarding, and calls for compassion, flexibility and commitment. In return, you'll be part of a supportive team where you can truly make a difference to patients with respiratory conditions every day.

We welcome people who are passionate about patient care and want to build a meaningful career in healthcare. You'll receive full training before working on the ward, starting with our "New to Care" induction programme. This will help you settle into life at the Royal United Hospitals Bath and develop the skills you need to succeed, including working towards the Care Certificate (unless you already hold it).

If you're motivated, caring and ready to start a rewarding career in Respiratory, we'd love you to join our team.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Healthcare Support Worker you will be a core member of the team delivering personal care, both clinical and non-clinical, to patients. You'll also be key in supporting patients with their own self-care and independence.

You'll work under the guidance of a healthcare professional such as a nurse and your job will vary depending on the ward you are based. Your daily duties will be varied to include:

  • Delivering personal care such as helping patients get up, washed and dressed, taking patients to the toilet, helping at meal times
  • Contribute to patient assessments such as blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature
  • Recording your actions accurately in patient notes.

Our hospital is a 24 hour service as our patients need care and attention around the clock.

The skills we are looking for:

  • You need to be able to understand and communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • You don't need any formal qualifications in maths but you will need to have numerical and analytic skills to do patient observations
  • You will need to have a customer focused approach which is essential to providing patients with the best possible experience
  • You will need to be able to use IT systems and databases (training is provided)
  • You will have the skill to focus on the details with the ability to spot problems. You will know when you are able to correct or when to escalate.

About us

At the RUH we're proud to put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community.
