Our in-house Staffing Solutions Team, who support temporary workers across the Trust, are recruiting Environment Porters to help maintain our hospital site and ensure we provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for our patients, staff and visitors.
By being on our temporary staffing bank, it allows you to choose the hours that suit your lifestyle, meaning you can book work just a few hours in advance and up to six weeks ahead.
This role involves clearing clinical and non-clinical waste for our busy wards and departments to help ensure we have a welcoming, clean environment for our patients, staff and visitors.
As an Environment Porter, you'll play a vital part in keeping our busy hospital running smoothly. Your work will include clearing clinical and non-clinical waste from wards and departments, supporting our recycling processes, and helping us maintain high standards of hygiene and safety across the site.
Some of your duties will include:
- Collecting and transporting general, cardboard and clinical waste
- Driving a 7.5-tonne truck around the hospital site (C1 driving licence required)
- Working across different departments and areas of the Trust
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Good communication skills, with the ability to work independently when needed as well as part of a team
- A C1 category driving licence, allowing you to operate the vehicles needed for the role
- A positive, proactive approach to supporting a busy waste and recycling service.
You'll be part of a hardworking, friendly and supportive team that plays a crucial role in maintaining the hospital environment and supporting patient care behind the scenes.
Main duties of the job
1. Collection of clinical, domestic, recycling and other special waste items from wards anddepartments in line with the Trusts Policy and Procedures for Waste Management.2. Segregation of all waste streams prior to collection by waste contractors.3. The weighing and logging of clinical waste bins and electrical appliances.4. Collection of soiled laundry from wards and departments for storage prior to collection by the laundry supplier.5. To collect and deliver furniture and other equipment as required from corridors, wards and departments as detailed in job request sheets.
