Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust

Clinical Fellow in Breast Surgery

The closing date is 16 March 2026

Job summary

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for aClinical Fellow in Breast Surgery to join our dynamic and supportive team. This role provides excellent exposure across the full spectrum of breast diagnostics, surgical management and multidisciplinary care, making it an ideal post for those seeking to develop specialist skills in breast surgery.

As a Clinical Fellow, you will be actively involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with breast symptoms. Your clinical experience will span outpatient clinics, ward care and theatre, ensuring broad and comprehensive training.

There will be regular opportunities to prepare for and present at the weekly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting alongside other trainees, offering valuable experience in collaborative clinical decision-making.

Your level of independence will be tailored to your seniority:

  • More senior fellows will undertake independent clinics, with senior clinicians available for support.
  • You will also participate in consultant-led clinics for patients requiring complex decision-making.
  • Dedicated theatre time will be provided, with training opportunities across the full range of breast surgery, including:
    • surgical decision-making
    • informed consent
    • oncoplastic marking
    • supervised or independent operating (dependent on experience)

Main duties of the job

A monthly rota will outline clinic and theatre allocations, carefully balancing service delivery and training clinics. All trainees contribute to the care of breast inpatients, supported by junior staff and our highly skilled breast care nursing team.

We actively encourage involvement inresearch, audit and quality improvement projects. Fellows will be supported to contribute to ongoing work within the department and to develop their own projects where appropriate.

The clinical fellow will be closely involved in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast symptoms. This will be in clinic, on the ward and in theatre. There will be opportunities to prepare and present the weekly MDT meeting alongside the other trainees.

Dependant on seniority of the candidate, there will be an expectation that the fellow will undertake clinics independently (albeit with senior clinicians to confer with). There will be a number of clinics undertaken with consultants for patients requiring complex clinical decision making.

There will be time allocated the theatre. Depending upon seniority, there will be training in all aspects of breast care including surgical decision making, undertaking informed consent, oncoplastic marking up and all breast operations with supervision or independently.
