Clinical Healthcare Support Worker

Job summary

Our Clinical Healthcare Support Workers are integral to our nursing teams. It takes flexibility, commitment and compassion, but in return we can offer you a rewarding career where you can really make a difference.

You will be required to assist in patient care and other ward related duties under the supervision of a Registered nurse. Carry out routine duties, including activities in which the post holder has been assessed as competent. Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with nursing colleagues and all members of the multi-disciplinary team, and work in accordance with the Unit Philosophies and hospital policies at all times.

You will start on our healthcare support worker induction programme to learn the skills you need to be confident and competent to do this role, and we will start you working towards achieving the Care Certificate, if you do not already hold this qualification.

What you can expect to be doing in this role:

You will be a core member of the team delivering personal care, both clinical and non-clinical, to patients. You'll also be key in supporting patients with their own self-care and independence.

You will be supporting registered nurses to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.

This is a busy role so you will be working together with your team to balance different tasks that often change.

Main duties of the job

1) To assist in providing individualised patient care in accordance with instructions and training received, reporting any changes in condition promptly to the Registered Nurse.

2) Under direction, to undertake additional duties when trained and competent to include accurately record patient's vital signs and recognise and report abnormalities.

3) Promote and maintain patient privacy and dignity.

4) Ensure that patient confidentiality is respected at all times, including verbal and written information.

5) Contribute to patient assessments, making sure that any information provided by the patient is handed on to the Registered Nurse.

6) Provide support and reassurance to patients and others at times of loss or distress, ensuring that the Nurse in charge is aware of any communication that has taken place.

7) Help to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, reporting any hazards, which might endanger others to the Nurse in charge and/or where applicable take appropriate action to remove these.

8) Assist the Registered Nurse team to ensure that equipment is kept clean, well maintained and ready for use, and that broken items are sent promptly for repair in accordance with local procedures.

9) Assist the nursing team to ensure that supplies/stocks are maintained

10) Assist in the maintenance of ward cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to Infection Control Policy at all times.
