Specialist Paediatric Dietitian

Job summary

We are looking for an experience paediatric dietitian that wants to specialise in paediatric dietetics, to join our growing team based at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. The successful candidate will work within a small team of paediatric dietitians and will job share a variety of paediatric dietetic clinical activities.

The main purpose and expectation of this role is to

1. Deliver an Inpatient Dietetic service to our Children's ward

2. Deliver an outpatient Clinics for Coeliac Disease, CMPA and general Paediatric Dietetic

This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with Paediatric Consultants, Specialist Nurses and other AHPs in the Children's ward, and across the community settings whilst also having the advantage of being based in a new, purpose built, integrated therapies department.

The post holder will be part of a service supporting children and young people and their families with a wide range of conditions including, allergies, gastrointestinal conditions, faltering growth, inpatient eating disorders, ARFIDS, enteral feeding and weight management. You will work independently, but also as part of a Multi-disciplinary team covering both inpatients on the Children's ward alongside an outpatient clinic caseload. You will be supported by Band 7 Dietitian and will be expected to contribute to new service developments, regular audits and development of outcome measures and resources

Main duties of the job

The specialist paediatric dietitian shares the dietetic clinical caseload for paediatric dietetic services across the Bath community health area with experienced Senior Paediatric Dietitians.The post holder is responsible for providing highly specialised nutritional and dietetic advice in this area and will:

  • Share on provision of dietetic care to children, young people and families with a range of conditions across Bath health community Area.
  • Responsible for supervising and providing clinical support to junior paediatric dietitians and - students.
  • To work as an independent practitioner using an advanced level of knowledge and skills in leading the provision of a highly specialised paediatric dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients. This includes having shared responsibility in deciding complex dietetic treatment plans for these patients and reducing the need for hospital admissions.
  • To work within the wider multidisciplinary team across community and acute settings, being a support for the lead team member in the responsibility for key medical decisions with the provision of the specialised dietetic services. To support and train junior dietitians in providing a service to paediatric dietetic patients. Contribute to the holistic approach to promote the welfare of children and young people on your caseload to ensure the best possible outcome for the families.
