Job summary
Hello My Name is Erin Houlihan and I am the Matron for Head and Neck services at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. We have an exciting opportunity for a Head & Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist within our dynamic and specialised team. We are currently offering this full time post over 5 days working within the current team of CNS nurses.
The specialised team of dedicated nurses facilitate the treatment pathway of patients within the ENT, Max Fax Department and Oncology Department, concentrating mainly with patients who are undergoing treatment for a head and neck cancer. We are looking for a professional and reliable team member who has an interest within ENT, max fax and oncology, allowing them to support patients who are undergoing difficult cancer treatments, whilst working within a multidisciplinary team.
Our CNS team work closely with other services to provide holistic care to our patients supporting them throughout the treatment and recovery pathway delivering high standards of clinical care using evidence based research. Excellent clinical standards, audit, research and patient engagement are at the heart of what we provide working closely within the RUH Trust Values. The team have a fantastic reputation within the trust and are a supportive and inclusive team. The CNS Role supports working autonomously within the clinical environment and within the Multi disciplinary team within the trust and community setting.
Main duties of the job
To work as an autonomous practitioner clinically as a Head and Neck clinical nurse specialist (CNS), delivering and maintaining high standards of care and being a core part of the multi-disciplinary team. The role will require excellent communication skills and dedication to improve and develop services that positively impact patient care and experience. To support and contribute to the development and promotion of the nursing service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care. To promote and participate in the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy:-
- reviewing nursing practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
- developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
- The assessment of care and health education needs;
- The development, implementation and evaluation of treatment pathways within the acute hospital environment and the community setting.
- To educate staff in understanding the care requirements of patients undergoing investigations and treatments and ensure that the physical and psychological needs of the patients and their families are met.
