Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a junior clinical fellow to join our Intensive Care team. The RUH ICU admits approximately 1000 patients per year with 85% as emergencies, including critically unwell children. Our patient cohort is a 60% medical - 40% surgical split with a mean age of 61, average length of stay 2.7 days and a standardised mortality ratio of 0.93 (meaning that more of our patients survive compared to similar sized units). In December 2024 we moved to a brand-new ward, B36, which has a 16 bed capacity across a number of negative, neutral and positive pressure ventilated rooms. The new ward will offer excellent facilities for both patients, their relatives and staff, with increased numbers of spaces to work and rest compared to our current unit.
Main duties of the job
Although this is not a recognised training post, there will be opportunities for learning and development. You will be expected to be responsible for your own learning by making full use of the tutorial system, access to academic staff and consultant's teaching and to attend as directed for training and in-service commitments.
You will be expected to prepare presentations as requested for tutorials and assist in any collection of information for audit procedures as and when these are carried out within the department. The department has a structured clinical governance and communication programme where practices are assessed, guidelines reviewed etc that ensures an ethos of continual quality and service improvement.
We are highly rated in the GMC survey and get consistently positive feedback from trainees at the deanery quality panel, most recently being rated as 'excellent.' All doctors, regardless of their training status, receive an educational supervisor and a study budget.
