Head of Nuclear Medicine

Job summary

The Royal United Hospital in Bath is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to manage and lead our Nuclear Medicine Physics Team, and the Clinical Services of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. Members of the physics team work across both the Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology sections of the RUH Imaging Physics Group. The team is an integral part of the Imaging Physics Group, which also includes Clinical Measurement services.

The Imaging Physics Group is a friendly and enthusiastic team of clinical scientists, clinical technologists, and administrators. It includes and is highly committed to supporting both scientist and technologist trainees via the NHS STP scheme and a level 6 technologist apprenticeship program. The vital importance of research, development and innovation is recognised and there is active involvement in clinical trials and various research projects both internally and with external partners.

This is an exciting time to join the department with expanding services and having moved into a brand new purpose built cancer centre. There are also lots of opportunities for development including management of apprenticeship programmes, teaching and research.

This role currently has part-time funding. If you are interested in full-time please talk to us about possible future opportunities to increase the hours.

Main duties of the job

You will provide scientific leadership and direction to the Nuclear Medicine Physics Group, and you will provide managerial and scientific support for the clinical services of Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. You will be an effective communicator and an inspiring leader, able to develop the teams and the services.

The role requires detailed scientific knowledge and technical expertise in the use of radioactive substances and their application to healthcare. You will provide advice at the highest level within the trust on the management of radiation protection, acting in an expert advisory capacity as Medical Physics Expert for Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT. You will work closely with other Radiation Protection Advisers and Radioactive Waste Advisers in the Trust.

You will also be responsible for ensuring that appropriate training in the use of radioactive substances is provided for Trust staff in line with Trust policy and legislation.
