Job summary
There is a whole-time, fixed term post of 12 months for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Cardiology at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a dynamic medical team. A job plan will be designed to support the individual and the service, including ward, outpatient clinic and specialist sessions.
While the post is not recognised by the Deanery for training, it will enable the trainee to build on their prior experience. The Royal United Hospital has an excellent reputation for training in medical and surgical specialties. The department and the hospital provide a progressive and friendly atmosphere in which to work, and there is an active postgraduate teaching programme, in which you will be involved.
The post holder would become part of a strong and established team of 11 Consultant Cardiologists, 1 SAS, 2 Ward Fellows, 4 Registrars, 5 MNPs, 1 SHO, 3 FY1s and 2 GPs with specialist interests
RUH Cardiology is situated on 2 floors in the central block of the RUH. It consists of an 8 bed Coronary Care Unit, 36 bed Cardiac Ward, the nurse-led Cardiology Day-Case Unit where TOE is undertaken; for outpatients we have 3 consulting rooms with 5 co-located echocardiography and diagnostic rooms, and pacing and 12-lead ECG departments. There are 2 Cardiac Catheterisation Suits with recovery for 4 patients and a radial lounge with 3 chairs.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties:
o To provide, to a high standard, a full range of specialist Cardiology services, treatment and care to inpatients, day cases and outpatients.
o To provide and develop a sub-specialty interest that complements the needs of the department and supports the interests of the existing consultants.
o To contribute to the academic life of the Cardiology Department, the Division and the Trust. To contribute to the teaching of junior medical staff, medical students and other Trust staff. To undertake and promote research initiatives within the Department
o To be responsible and to undertake all necessary administration associated with the care of their patients
o To be responsible to the Departmental Consultants and Clinical Lead for the effective and efficient use of resources under their control
o To undertake some responsibility for organising and delivering teaching to junior medical and nursing teams. o To observe and follow the Trust's agreed policies and procedures
