Job summary

Research and clinical trials are a very important part of the National Health Service. Everyday clinical trials investigating medicines are being run across the country which are working towards new and improved treatments for patients.

The successful candidate will be a hard-working and professional individual who enjoys being part of research. The principal objective of this role is to provide leadership for the oncology & haematology clinical trials and effective oversight directing the safe and timely set up and maintenance of these clinical trials at the trust.

The post holder will build and expand the oncology & haematology clinical trials portfolio whilst ensuring compliance with International Conference on Harmonisation of Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP), clinical trials regulations, the research governance framework and other relevant guidelines and policies. The post holder will be responsible for the development and approval of oncology and haematology clinical trials prescriptions.

There is a unique opportunity as part of this role to work within the Cancer Services team in the new Dyson Cancer Centre at the RUH, enabling the postholder to enhance their specialist knowledge in this area.

Main duties of the job

o To coordinate all pharmaceutical aspects of oncology and haematology clinical trials across the Trust, and to help ensure the provision of a quality pharmaceutical dispensing and aseptic service to patients of the Trust with regard to these trials.

o Comply with specific guidance and regulations relating to clinical trials, for example International Conference on Harmonisation for Good Clinical Practice (ICH E6 R2 GCP), the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Amendment Regulations 2006, Clinical Trials Directive 2001/20/EC, and other relevant guidelines, regulations and policies on Good Clinical Practice and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for Clinical Trials.

o Lead and direct the setting up oncology & haematology clinical trials of investigational medicinal products (CTIMPs) accurately following sponsor provided clinical trial documents and within sponsor and trust agreed timelines.

o Support and develop the Trust Research & Development portfolio.

o Be the delegated Lead Pharmacist for oncology & haematology and radiopharmacy clinical trials.
