Job summary

An excellent opportunity to join the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust (RUH) as a Cellular Pathology Laboratory Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a professional, cohesive and well established team based at the RUH in the beautiful city of Bath. In this key role, you will make a difference by leading a large, skilled and cohesive team to deliver the smooth running of the whole technical discipline of Cellular Pathology.

You will be part of the Pathology leadership team including the Clinical Director, Pathology Services Manager and Blood Sciences Laboratory Manager and together you will create and deliver the strategic vision for Pathology. This is an exciting time for pathology with many transformational projects and we would expect you to play a major role in these. We are part of the West of England Pathology Network and have a focused programme of work on Histopathology.

The service provides Histopathology, Non-Gynae Cytology (including andrology) and mortuary services to BaNES, Wiltshire and North Somerset.

Our Cellular Pathology Laboratory processes 34,000 histopathology requests, 22,000 immunocytochemistry slides, 2,000 non-gynaecological specimens and carries out 130 post mortems per annum. The department transitioned to UKAS 15189(2022) in August 2024 and the mortuary is licenced by the HTA.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining us at an exciting time with an opportunity to drive and deliver service change and quality improvements through the implementation of a Managed Equipment Service.Having a positive impact in patient's wellbeing.

We have a real focus on digital transformation to improve the quality of our service. The department has recently gone live with the Fujifilm Synapse system for digital reporting and is implementing Ibex AI for prostate biopsies and at a mature stage of digital MDT meetings. The system is fully integrated with the Ultra 4.5 LIMS system.

The department is active in training new Biomedical Scientists andholds IBMS Training Laboratory status for registration and specialist portfolio, histopathology dissection and supports further development opportunities for all staff.

You will need to have HCPC registration, an FIBMS or MSc and have proven experience of working at a senior level in Cellular Pathology, as well as a management and leadership qualification.
