Job summary
Staff Nurse - Trauma Assessment Unit (TAU).
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated nurse with excellent communication skills who has a passion for providing exceptional high quality care to our patients that are assessed in TAU by maintaining the high standards of quality and safety, and to ensure our patients get the best experience possible.
We are an outpatients department which is run by a multidisciplinary service consisting of consultants, clinicians, advanced orthopaedic practitioners, nurse practitioners, nurses, health care assistants and administrative staff. We have strong, close links with other departments such as the orthopaedic fracture clinic, the plaster room, radiology team, the emergency department, the trauma coordinators, therapists, clinical site team and trauma and orthopaedic wards.
We provide a service of assessment and reviewing trauma and orthopaedic patients whereby relevant testing, imaging and intervention can take place with a view for appropriate management.
Main duties of the job
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a staff nurse in TAU you will have duties and responsibilities such as:
Initial assessments of patients whilst waiting for the on call team, nurse practitioners and consultants to assess/review patients
Take observations, perform blood glucose testing, take blood samples, cannulate and perform bladder scans
Being able to understand and assist in the application of braces, slings and splints
Be able to provide appropriate wound care and management
Support the doctors while performing minor procedures in the treatment room and with dressing application
Administer medications
Have good communication skills to be able to provide health education and teaching to patients and carers
Have good communication skills to keep patients informed, provide comfort and reassurance
You will be required to work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:
The assessment of care and health educational needs
The development, implementation and evaluation of care including discharge planning for each patient.
To promote and participate in the implementation of the RUH Nursing strategy:
Reviewing nursing practice and implement appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
To provide clinical support to departments as required. E.g. Administration of drugs, personal care to patients, wound management
