Job summary

The Phlebotomy team are looking to recruit Band 2 permanent Phlebotomists.

The successful applicants will be expected to support and complement the existing team, taking bloods from a variety of patients. This includes working across the whole hospital supporting both Inpatients and Outpatients, this service is offered 7 days a week including Public Holidays. (Please see job description)

The applicant would need to be caring, friendly, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, showing empathy and compassion, to work and communicate with the patients and the team.

No previous phlebotomy experience needed as full training will be provided. Previous experience as a carer would be welcomed.

The Phlebotomy team are a dynamic team keen on developing and supporting each other.

Please do be aware that the role involves handling blood so not for the squeamish.

Main duties of the job

Performance of phlebotomy duties specified by the phlebotomy Team leaders and Phlebotomy Senior Sister.

As a Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient collection and processing of biological samples. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Specimen Collection:Utilize proper venipuncture techniques to collect blood specimens, ensuring patient safety and comfort. You will verify patient identities and follow infection control protocols to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Patient Interaction:Explain procedures clearly to patients, address any concerns, and ensure that their confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Sample Management:Accurately label and store collected specimens, complete requisition forms, and enter patient details into IT systems for efficient processing.
  • Collaboration:Work closely with healthcare professionals and other team members to ensure accurate specimen collection and optimal patient care.
  • Laboratory Support: Assist in laboratory areas, prepare equipment for testing, and maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies.
