Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and self driven Physiotherapist to join the musculoskeletal team as the spinal specialist ACP. The post holder will work closely with the surgical consultants to provide advanced practice physiotherapy within the orthopaedic clinics and in the therapy outpatient department. The opportunity is available for a qualified ACP, or someone looking to train and develop their advanced practice skills. The post holder will have extensive experience working as an MSK/orthopaedic physiotherapist and able to demonstrate interest and motivation to develop skills in this highly specialist area.

The physiotherapy outpatient team comprises of advanced practitioners and clinical specialists in a variety of conditions (e g knee, shoulder, hips, foot and ankle), MSK specialists, rotating therapists and support workers. It is a well regarded team with established processes for the variety of care and services it provides as well as innovative practices developed through projects and audit. The team have regular CPD and enjoy working in the purpose built therapy centre at the RUH together.

The successful candidate will enjoy working with a high level of complexity and be a source of expertise for therapists both internally and externally. Highly developed time management skills and attention to detail are crucial in this role.

Main duties of the job

  • The successful post holder will be the lead physiotherapist for the spinal service, assessing and treating spinal patients within and alongside the orthopaedic Consultant clinics. To include ordering imaging or investigations, reviewing investigations, listing for injections and surgery, leading patient discussions around surgical interventions and prescribing medications.
  • To successfully complete Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) Accreditation in line with the framework for advanced practice and their primary professional regulatory body, with the expectation that on successful completion the post holder will move into a qualified ACP role at band 8a.
  • The post holder will be working towards fulfilling the expectations and core capabilities of an ACP as set out in the Multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice in England (HEE, 2017) the RUH Trust Framework for Advanced Practice and the Trust ACP Job Description. This means working in conjunction with the 4 pillars of advanced practice.
