Job summary

To provide a full comprehensive reception and clerical service in support of the professional staff involved in patient care based in the Neurology Outpatient Department which also includes outpatient support for the Acute Stroke Unit and the Older People's Unit.

Main duties of the job

Receive patients and relatives at reception in a friendly and courteous manner.

Answer all telephone enquiries in a helpful manner with an understanding of patient confidentially, taking and relaying messages competently and taking action as appropriate.

To maintain patient details / appointments efficiently on the patient administration system (Millennium). This will include the registration of patient referral letters, daily statusing of clinics and basic template changes.

To book follow up outpatient appointments and which can sometime include ensuring all patients are advised of their appointments with reasonable notice or after negotiation with the patient.

To cancel and rebook follow up patients as needed.

To arrange transport for patients as and when required.

To book interpreters as and when required.

To liaise with nurses, doctors, GP's and other members of the department to provide a quality service for patients.

Be aware of and adhere to national waiting time targets when scheduling patient appointments.

To carry out other clerical duties as required; this will include opening and sorting of post, copying and distribution of patient information leaflets.

Facilitate, manage and book epilepsy hot clinic appointments, working alongside the epilepsy nurse specialist.

To provide administrative support for the whole department as required and undertake any additional duties as requested by senior secretary and management staff.
