Job summary

Helena ward is a 17 bedded Neurology ward committed to the care of patients over the age of 18 years with acute or chronic neurological conditions.

Organisation and communication is essential in maintaining and progressing the patient pathway in a busy and challenging environment.

You will be a core team member delivering personal care to patients and supporting patients self care and independence (where possible).

You will work under the guidance of healthcare professionals such as registered nurses.

Training and supervision in all aspects of care will be provided and you will be supported in undertaking Certificate in Care and NVQ qualifications together with other relevant training.

Previous health care experience is highly advantageous. Manual dexterity and ability to work in a fast paced environment is essential. You will demonstrate care and compassion through good communication, organisational skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Our hospital is a 24 hour service as our patients need care and attention around the clock, therefore we work on a shift basis and you will be required to work 12.5 hour shifts (inclusive of breaks) on day and night shifts to ensure our patients receive the very best care.

This may be a big change to you and your lifestyle but our teams who work around the clock say that they enjoy the varied work pattern.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Support Worker you will assist in patient care and other ward-related duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The care you give to patients will be compassionate, caring and high quality. You will carry out routine duties, including activities in which the post holder has been assessed as competent by a Registered Nurse. As a member of the ward team you will support the other staff and contribute to a team approach to support with patient care in conjunction with nursing colleagues and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
