Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join a genuinely cohesive, dynamic and growing consultant O&G team at the RUH Bath. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with an interest in being a skilled generalist who will take the lead for a specialist element of our service. All special interests that complement the department will be considered and early discussion with the departmental clinical leads is encouraged.

The successful applicant will take up a permanent Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist role. The role will include a 1 in 12 rolling on call duty, antenatal clinic, gynaecology outpatient clinics, emergency gynaecology, minor treatment clinics and elective theatre sessions. All areas of specialist interest will be considered for support. There will also be the opportunity to have dedicated operating sessions with a senior consultant to develop gynaecological surgical skills if needed. Candidates who have not yet obtained CCT will be considered.

Main duties of the job

For the right candidate adjustment of the job plan (e.g. inclusion of more operating time for someone with an interest in gynaecological surgery) will be considered. The RUH proudly supports its O&G consultants to maintain a broad range of clinical skills whilst maintaining a wide range of specialist expertise within the department to draw upon. As a Consultant in the department, you will play a pivotal role in providing expert clinical care as well as leading and supporting the delivery of high-quality services to our patients.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a busy district general hospital, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, across neighbouring trusts and contributing to the advancement of women's health.

The O&G team, are held in very high regard for our training opportunities, as evidenced by our GMC and Training survey results, where the O&G department is consistently ranked in the top 3 regionally and top 10 nationally. An interest in research and teaching is expected of all consultants. Participation in QI projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the department and trust is encouraged. There are regular departmental meetings and research links with the University of Bath, University of Exeter and through the Bath School of Postgraduate Medicine.
