Job summary
The Trauma Assessment Unit is a busy, friendly environment where patients are referred from community services, minor injury units, the emergency department and our trauma wards for treatment. Injection clinics, local anaesthetic hand surgeries and minor procedures also take place in our treatment room within the department.
The care provided puts our patients at the heart of what we do.
The Nursing Associate will work to Registered Nursing Associate nationally recognised Code of Conduct and Standards of Proficiency. They will work with the multi professional team and the Registered Nurse to assess, plan, organise and deliver clinical care in line with service and patient needs, as agreed with supervising clinicians. The Nursing Associate works independently under the leadership of registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing care and within all aspects of the nursing process.
Main duties of the job
- To assist the on-call team to provide the required support for all patients referred and reviewed in the unit.
- To contribute to and participate in the development of a culture that is committed to quality care and improvement in patient services.
- To work without direct supervision of the registered nurse in providing care to patients in the trauma and orthopaedic pathway as directed by the on-call team.
- To utilise skills and knowledge to provide a high standard of evidence based care, maintaining privacy and dignity of all patients, working within the trusts policy and guidelines.
- To assist with all general nursing duties with the unit.
- To greet the patients and to direct them within the unit as appropriate.
- To assist patients with all aspects of maintaining their hygiene needs.
- To admit as on the appointment book or to the unit as guided by the on-call team and trauma nurses
- To perform Vital signs pre and post assessment/procedures as per Care Pathway.
- To document such data accurately
