Job summary

Consultant in Cellular Pathology (Full-time)

We offer a relocation package.

Applications are invited for two full-time posts of Consultant in Cellular Pathology at The Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust. Although these are full-time posts, applications for candidates wishing to work less than full-time will be considered.

Due to retirement and an increase in elective recovery work we are looking for a replacement consultant and a new consultant to join our otherwise full complement of five full-time consultants and three part-time consultants, all of whom value a supportive team approach to a general histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology rota. Whilst we do not run a specialist reporting system at present, each consultant takes a lead role in one or more areas of interest to support nine MDT meetings each week. An increase in consultant numbers would allow consideration and planning for a move towards subspecialist reporting. A specialist interest, or a willingness to develop such an interest, in breast or skin pathology is required to complement the interests of the existing consultants, however, other areas of specialist interest may also be accommodated. An interest in head-and-neck pathology would be desirable, but not essential.

The cellular pathology department is situated in a purpose-built laboratory, has full UKAS accreditation and is currently undergoing implementation of Digital Pathology.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties: Consultant Cellular Pathologist with (or be willing to develop) a special interest in either breast or skin pathology. Further areas of specialist interest that complement those of other pathologists in the department may also be considered. An interest in head-and-neck pathology would be desirable, however it is not essential.

The posts will be based at the RUH, and the holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Head of Service for Pathology.

A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and collection of evidence for CPD is essential. It is also essential that you have an annual appraisal.

An interest in research and teaching is welcomed with participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance the standing and role of the Department and Trust.

Attendance at, and organisation of, meetings is expected.

The post holder will be expected to cover for colleagues when absent or on leave.
