Job summary

We are looking for a Senior Administrative Assistant to join our secretarial team in Cellular Pathology.

The department reports surgical histology cases, cytology samples, supports 33 clinicopathological meetings per month, providing a cellular pathology service to hospital clinicians and GPs in BaNES, Wiltshire and Somerset.

The role involves providing administrative support to the team of senior medical secretaries, eight consultant histopathologists and senior laboratory staff.

This role is varied with the post holder having specific responsibilities for the cervical screening administration tasks within cellular pathology , maintenance of the appointment system for patients requiring semen analysis and also facilitating the procedure for external molecular testing of histopathological samples.

You will need to be accurate, have experience of different IT systems, be flexible, a good communicator and be willing to learn.

Although this post is a full-time role, for the right candidate part-time hours may be considered.

Main duties of the job

Preparation of 2 colposcopy correlation multi-disciplinary team meetings each month, as well as providing support to the medical secretaries in preparation of 33 other MDT meetings each month.

Responsible for maintenance of appointment system for patients requiring semen analysis.

Facilitating procedure for sending away histopathological samples for molecular testing and HER2 receptor testing and adding supplementary reports to the pathology LIMS.

Dispatching specimens for trials, slides and/or blocks to other laboratories as requested and documenting material being referred on to various department databases.

General secretarial duties, including telephone enquiries, photocopying, e-mailing and filing. This includes performing clerical duties related to cervical screening as directed by the Laboratory Manager and Cervical Screening Provider Lead for the Royal United Hospital.
