Job summary

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of our Executive Team and is a voting member of the Board of Directors. As an Executive Director, the post holder shares responsibility with Director colleagues for the overall strategic direction and performance of the Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (RUH).

This represents an exciting opportunity for someone who has the energy and drive to work for the RUH, an organisation aspiring to be one of the best acute providers in the country, and a leading exemplar regarding partnership working. To thrive in this role, we anticipate that you will be drawing on extensive experience in demanding operational management roles and at managing busy and extensive portfolios of work. Ideally, your operational experience will have been substantially in healthcare.

You will contribute to our strategic thinking and decision-making processes and will have overall responsibility for the delivery of high-quality operational services and for effective performance. You will lead specific programmes as agreed with the Chief Executive and will also be the Executive Lead for Improving Together, our system of behaviours, routines and quality improvement tools to improve our services.
