Paediatric Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner undertaking assessment, consultation and delivering management of care to children, young people and their families with epilepsy.

You will be working within paediatrics as part of the MTD, receiving referrals, triage patients and holding their own caseload, preventing children and young people from requiring admission to hospital where appropriate.

You will work closely with the children's community team and the acute ward to support care delivery in the community where appropriate.

You will act as a role model to deliver a high standard of care to the children and young people whilst supporting learners within the environment to develop their knowledge and skills.

The post holder could be required to work in any clinical area where children and young people are cared for within the Trust, according to the needs of the services.

At all times, you will work in accordance with the principles governed by the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and Trust Policies.

Main duties of the job

To work autonomously, managing own caseload of patients to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.

To develop and run, paediatric epilepsy nurse led clinics both face to face and via telephone.To provide specialist advice and support to children and young people (CYP) and their families to improve self-management of their condition.To appropriately triage and support patients who may be unwell, undertaking a physical examination and recognise deviations from the CYP's normal status.To recognise clinical presentations of a sick child or young person and manage seizures appropriately. To deliver treatment as appropriate or refer to another agency in a timely manner.Ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and any specific competencies for the role are completed.Maintain a high standard of nursing care applying evidence-based practice.Assess, plan, implement and evaluate child/family centred care with consideration of individual ethnic, cultural, social, developmental and religious needs.Coordinate pathways of care for children and young people on their caseload.To support and facilitate transition pathways Into adult services.Maintain accurate records.
