Job summary

The opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Ophthalmology Nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team in providing gold standard care for the community of West Norfolk, based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be able to integrate into our current team of specialist nurses and be able to provide nurse led services, work autonomously but also support junior members of the team in improving their skills and knowledge of the specialty.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic Specialist Nurse to join our Ophthalmology Nursing Team.

The Ophthalmology Department are based in the recently opened West Norfolk Eye Centre and we would be particularly interested to hear from Nurses with a background of working within glaucoma services and Ophthalmology surgical assessment and nurse-led intravitreal injections.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Nurse-led pre-assessment clinics for ocular surgery.
  • Nurse led post-operative clinics.
  • Nurse led glaucoma review clinics, including glaucoma assessment, performing visual field tests & fundal photography.
  • Macular degeneration diagnostic and treatment clinic work, including OCT scans and working in the treatment room for intravitreal treatments.
  • Working within the main eye outpatient department to support the array of clinics within the speciality including general ophthalmology, eye casualty, paediatrics, epiphora, medical retina, vitreo-retinal, ocular plastics, cataract and glaucoma.
  • Triage and management of eye casualty patients, acting as a bleep holder within this area of the service.

The successful candidate will be predominantly based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn, but may be required to work at outreach clinics at the North Cambs Hospital, Wisbech.
