Job summary
The appointee will be offered a post to emulate a Specialist Trainee or Internal Medicine Trainee year within Medicine, dependant on grade. This will include 6 months based in Acute Medicine and 6 months in a Medical Specialty (or vice versa). The Medical specialty on offer is General Medicine.
The training opportunities will mirror those given to the Internal Medicine Trainees/Specialist Trainees with support from departmental teaching, ePortfolio, training budget, Quality Improvement Projects (QIP), participation in Outpatient elective activity and allocation of a clinical/educational supervisor to support career development. Advanced Life Support (ALS) can also be organised at the trust but is desirable to have before starting.
The appointee will contribute to the medical on-call rota, including leading cardiac arrests and supervising junior doctors.
Main duties of the job
ClinicaloTo be a key member of the medical team with a clear role in ensuring comprehensive care for inpatients and providing acute assessment on presentation.oTo develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.oWard based care of inpatients on specialty wards, under the supervision of specialty consultants.oProvide clinical supervision of junior doctors on medical wards and/or in the on-call team.oProvide senior medical input for the on-call Medical Team (especially Out of Hours) and lead the cardiac arrest team.oTo have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.oTo deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.oTo be able to perform emergency procedures, such as lumbar puncture, ascitic drain and chest drains. Training can be provided around procedural competencies.oTo follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.
OrganisationaloTo provide support for the effective development of the relevant medical service.oTo have responsibility for ensuring active participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).oTo carry out responsibilities with due regard to the Trust's Equal Opportunities Policy.
