Cardiac Assistant

The closing date is 20 August 2025

Job summary

The post holder will provide clinical and administration assistance to the Echocardiography service.

The role is focused on care of the patient whilst they are in the department and can involve a wide range of tasks which will vary with each patient or with the reason they have attended the department.

This is an important role in the Cardio/Respiratory Department as patients attending for appointments may exhibit confusion or are anxious and require reassurance before, during or after their tests. Some patients have mobility issues and need assistance to move or dress, others may feel unwell or test results may indicate that they may need to be monitored in the department until they can be seen by a doctor.

Assistance with patient care is vital to ensure patient safety and wellbeing and also ensures the smooth running of the department. This role is for someone who enjoys patient interaction, is flexible enjoying a varied work routine, works well under pressure or in difficult situations and can present a welcoming, professional and caring attitude at all times.

In addition to direct patient care and support, routine tasks will also include: setting up rooms and equipment ready for the patient tests, directly related patient administrative duties - such as checking or recording personal patient data, and basic physiological measurements (e.g. blood pressure, height and weight).

Full training will be given by the staff responsible for designating the daily tasks.

Main duties of the job

Become familiar with the variety of Echocardiography procedures that take place in the department.

Be aware of the range of Cardio/Respiratory Investigations carried out in the department so that assistance could be provided in the other areas ifrequired.

Welcome the patient, if possible answer any questions they may have about the procedure giving a brief explanation if appropriate, or ask thePhysiologist explain or give details to the patient.

Re-assure anxious or distressed patients and also assist those with anyphysical or mental disability.

Measure and document patient height, weight and blood pressure prior to their test.
