Job summary
The integrated Rehabilitation Service consisting of the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services is looking for enthusiastic Physiotherapists that wish to develop their clinical skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Our 4-monthly rotations cover a range of specialties designed to develop the core skill set of a Band 5 Physiotherapist:
- Elective Orthopaedics
- Trauma Ward
- Acute Stroke Unit
- General Surgical Wards
- Respiratory Medicine/Critical Care
- Frailty wards
- Orthopaedic Outpatients
- Pelvic Health
There is also the opportunity to work alongside our experienced teams within the following specialities; Pain Clinic, Rheumatology Team, Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team and the Paediatric Team. This will provide further excellent learning opportunities within our established senior teams.
You will be well supported with regular supervision, appraisal and other learning and development opportunities.
To assist you with gaining confidence in the field of Respiratory Medicine and Critical Care you will undertake training within our on-site simulation suite. You will have an opportunity to attend bi-weekly peer supervision sessions led by an experienced band 6 Physiotherapist. These sessions cover a multitude of topics and give you protected learning time with your cohort.
Main duties of the job
- To undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments of patients using clinical reasoning to select appropriate assessment techniques to determine a clinical diagnosis of the patient's needs.
- To analyse the information gained from the assessment to formulate objectives and treatment plan in agreement with the patient where appropriate.
- To select appropriate treatment techniques from within own scope of practice referring to evidence-based practice. This could include but is not restricted to suction, electrotherapy, manual techniques, patient education, exercise groups, hydrotherapy, gait re-education, supply of appliances and equipment etc.
- To use clinical reasoning skills and appropriate outcome measures to review and evaluate a patient's condition at each physiotherapy session to amend the treatment programme as necessary to achieve planned objectives.
- To plan and undertake discharge of patients from physiotherapy when agreed objectives have been reached or treatment is no longer appropriate. This may involve discharge planning as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- To undertake emergency and on-call duties, following a period of training and induction. These duties will occur on a rota basis and during such times will require.
