Job summary
You will join an enthusiastic and friendly department of Orthopaedics which is an integral part of the Division of Surgery at the QEH.
You will ensure the continued delivery of high-quality care to patients within the trust and to contribute to the further development of the Trauma and Orthopaedic service.You will further develop your clinical knowledge and skills in Trauma and Orthopaedics to aid preparation for working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Main duties of the job
Speciality Doctors will be assigned to specialty firms (including Trauma).
Daytime sessions will include a scheduled ward round of all orthopaedic patients (on a rota basis), specialised Elective and Trauma theatre, Elective and Fracture clinic, on call and teaching / training sessions.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based healthcare services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, in addition to parts of Breckland, Cambridgeshire and South Lincolnshire.
We have more than 4,000 staff and volunteers, approximately 530 beds, and a helipad for air ambulances. We work with neighbouring hospitals for the provision of tertiary services, including as part of regional partnership and network models of care, such as the trauma network.
In February 2022 the significant progress that has been made at QEH was recognised by the Care Quality Commission who rated the Trust as 'Good' in all of the core services they inspected. They recommended the Trust moves out of the recovery support system (formerly special measures).

Qualifications and Registration
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCS (Full) or equivalent experience.
- ATLS or equivalent.
- Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
Experience
Essential
- At least four (4) years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two (2) of which will be in Trauma & Orthopaedics or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Trauma & Orthopaedics; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
- Able to deal with Trauma & Orthopaedic emergency admissions
- Competence in pre-operative and post-operative management of general surgical patients.
Desirable
- Able to independently perform basic orthopaedic trauma operations independently to a high standard: e.g. DHS, hemiarthroplasty, ankle fracture
- NHS experience
