Main duties of the job
To develop and provide a Speech and Language Therapy service to patients with a diagnosis of dementia and or being treated within the frailty/care of older people services.
To utilise highly developed specialist assessment skills and management of dysphagia and communication skills to patients with diverse and highly complex presentations within this speciality.
To provide line management, supervision, clinical education and senior clinical opinion to other members of the Speech and Language Therapy Team.
To contribute to the provision of instrumental evaluations of swallowing including Videofluoroscopy.
To lead in the evaluation of the SLT service to dementia and frailty patients, making recommendations for improvements and future design of services, in line with best practice and in collaboration with the SLT service lead.
To work as part of the integrated care of older people service multidisciplinary team to differentially diagnose, assess treat and manage swallowing and communication disorders within the specialty.
To take the lead in ensuring up to date skills and knowledge, local and National Policies within the specialty.
Provide expertise to Speech and Language Therapy and multi-disciplinary colleagues, patients and carers through specialist advice and education.
To contribute to maintaining and developing the Speech and Language Therapy service provision.
