An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic nurse to join our team on Ward 3, a busy 24 bedded medical ward, incorporating long term ventilation care patients. As Senior Staff Nurse, you will take charge in the absence of the Ward Manager and lead a team of nurses, healthcare assistants, and housekeepers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.

About You:

  • Degree or Diploma Level Education as a Registered Nurse (RN Child, RNLD, or RSCN)

  • Current registration with NMC

  • Experience within paediatrics and evidence of competencies achieved to move to a band 6

  • Committed to maintaining standards of care and patient safety

The post will include shift work involving a mix of days and nights from 07.00-19.30 and 19.00-07.30.

Main duties of the job

Reporting into the Ward Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and deliver skilled nursing care following the NMC Code of Conduct.

  • Plan and implement nursing care for an allocated patient group, prioritising and delegating to meet individual needs.

  • Advocate for patients, ensuring compassionate and patient-centred care.

  • Supervise, and support junior nurses and healthcare staff, providing guidance and promoting professional development.

  • Assist and deputise for the Ward Manager by supporting the management of the ward, staff, resources, and clinical standards, including representing the manager at meetings and forums.

  • Work collaboratively within the team, both internally and externally, to ensure holistic and seamless care delivery.

  • Take charge of the ward and provide leadership in the absence of the Ward Manager, being a role model to junior staff.
