Job summary

Permanent |The post offers a total of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), which includes 8.5 Clinical PAs and 1.5 Supporting PAs.

Applications are invited from candidates with a CCST in Clinical Genetics for the post of Consultant in Clinical Genetics, hosted by Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust (SC(NHS)FT), but based at the Northern General Hospital.

This is a full-time post, to provide clinical support to the present team of six Consultants, providing Clinical Genetic services for a population of around two million, and a further consultant leading the NCG atypical EDS service.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a varied clinical workload, with opportunities to sub-specialise in the future.

Main duties of the job

As a Consultant in Clinical Genetics in Sheffield, the postholder will contribute to providing clinical services for the population of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. The postholder will initially be expected to undertake a general caseload, but the future development of special interests and services will be encouraged and supported.

The postholder will undertake an average of 2-3 clinics per week, or the equivalent, seeing approximately 4-5 families per clinic. The department runs Outpatient Clinics in Sheffield and Peripheral Clinics throughout the region.

The postholder will also participate in a rota for Ward Referrals and urgent cases, although there is no on-call commitment. The postholder will contribute to meetings, including with mainstream colleagues. Job planning will take place annually.

Working hours are flexible, with lunch and travel to peripheral clinics included in the working times. As long as contracted hours are fulfilled, start and finish times can be adjusted. Additionally, there will be consideration of time off in lieu for any weekend working.
